What mask mandates and gun control have in common. The areas with the strictest rules seem to have the worst outcomes.

With mask mandates  around the country being several weeks old, and in some places a month or more, we are still seeing total coronavirus cases rising despite the increase in mask usage. All of which which begs the question – Are masks really the answer or are they possibly making the problem worse?

To begin, let’s listen to the country’s foremost expert on infectious diseases, Dr. Fauci. In this clip, you see a passionate Dr. Fauci arguing that masks provide virtually no protection from airborne viruses. He then goes on to say that masks most likely make matters worse as people are constantly touching them.

Compare that clip from March to today and the difference is night and day. Now the CDC is claiming that if everyone simply wore a mask, the pandemic would be over in a month. Of course, they don’t explain why they didn’t bother to tell us this at the start of pandemic instead of nearly 5 months after.

But what’s most troubling is the fact that experts have known for years that improperly worn masks or homemade “face coverings” do nothing to prevent airborne transmission of viruses, and in fact often make transmission easier. Below are just a few excerpts from medical journals over the years that back up that claim and were compiled in a recent segment by Fox News’ Laura Ingram.

“Penetration of cloth masks by particles was almost 97% and medical masks 44%…The results caution against the use of cloth masks…Moisture retention, reuse of cloth masks and poor filtration may result in increased risk of infection.” BMJ, April 2015

“At present, there is no direct evidence…on the effectiveness of universal masking of healthy people in the community to prevent infection with respiratory viruses, including COVID-19.” WHO, June 5 2020.

“Among the samples collected without a face mask, we found that the majority of participants with influenza virus and coronavirus infections did not shed detectable virus in respiratory droplets or aerosols.” Nature May 27 2020

So based on the experts, including Dr. Fauci, the advice that we are being given is totally useless. But not only that, and what is the most disturbing part, it’s possibly making the problem worse.

With so many people wearing improper masks or wearing them the wrong way, they are actually spreading more of the infection around than if they wore no mask at all. People are breathing into the same dirty, infected mask all day, then touching the mask and then touching public surfaces such as door handles and checkout kiosks. This spreads more of the virus than if those people did nothing at all and just lived their normal lives.

So why are we being told to wear masks, and why is the enforcement of mask wearing ramping up when there is really no evidence to support this trend? If anything, there is far more evidence that masks do nothing, or even worse exacerbate the pandemic.

All of this reminds me of gun control laws and how they relate to the most violent cities in America. The areas with the most crime often have the strictest gun control measures. Yet with the evidence being obvious that gun control doesn’t stop crime, officials in those cities are always petitioning for more gun control.

I’m afraid the mask debate has become as dogmatic and ignorant of facts as the debate for more gun control. The facts and the evidence are obvious, yet leaders push forward with measures that end up causing more harm to innocent Americans.
